20 December 2011: Football crazy

The CornerStone 6-a-side team are now in their third season. Its been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for some of the team, as Jon Roadnight explains “Some of the older players took a while to get match fit but then we went on a long unbeaten run and were top of the table for a while”. Needless to say, it didn’t last, but finishing their second season in third place was viewed as an achievement.

20 December 2011: Physical Security Information Management – unique expertise

It's been a busy time for CornerStone during the past year having undertaken a number of PSIM projects and continued their in-depth market research in various parts of the World. "We firmly believe that CornerStone's market and product knowledge is second to none. We have been very actively assessing the major PSIM/Situational awareness products for a number of years now and have developed a thorough understanding of both technical capability and sector experience" commented CornerStone's Jon Roadnight. "Our Clients benefit greatly from all of this hard work as it is a fast moving environment and one where making an informed decision is vital".

The CornerStone design process focuses on understanding their client requirements in detail and only once this has been achieved are they fully able to match the right product to meet these needs.

"Some Consultants enter into a design process with the solution already defined" Jon continued. "This approach will work occasionally but more often than not it results in a miss-match that really doesn't work for anyone. Our approach is all about defining the needs of the business, both current and future and selecting solutions that match those requirements as closely as possible. Our standard design approach works very well in the PSIM design arena".

Earlier this year CornerStone published a White Paper entitled "Will Physical security Information Management (PSIM) Systems change the Global Security World". Based upon the current level of market activity it is clear that the answer to this question is going to be "Yes". 20 December 2011: Team insight

Marc Lucking has been in the Security Industry for the whole of his career. Having served his apprenticeship as a Security Engineer Marc quickly progressed into System Integration where he has developed a substantial expertise.

His career has taken him to some interesting locations including a six month assignment in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. "It was an interesting project and it certainly made me aware of security issues that until that point, I hadn't had to consider" Marc commented.

He has helped secure a host of Royal and Government VIP's. "The threat profile may differ from the Corporate Security world but mitigation measures are broadly similar. My knowledge and experience in some of these more unusual areas has enabled me to develop a broad skill base which often stands me in good stead with our corporate client base" Marc stated.

So why join CornerStone? I've known Jon and Narinder (CornerStone directors) for a number of years. I worked with them when we were developing The Pearl Security Group so knew exactly what they were about. They explained their vision for the Company and it excited me. I knew we had a lot of hard work ahead but I wanted to be part of another success story".

He went on to say "winning the double award at this years Security Excellence Awards confirms that I made the correct decision". Away from work Marc spends most of his spare time with his family. He is also a keen follower of West Ham Utd – but we won't hold that against him!

11 January 2011: Post Room Security – are you doing enough?

Terrorists and others wishing to cause harm or disruption have long used postal and courier services to deliver hazardous items to target recipients. There have been a number of incidents in recent years ranging from motivated individuals aiming for specific targets, 'single issue' groups with a politically motivated agenda to terrorist activity intent on causing maximum death and destruction.

Their modus operandi has a common theme, they have all used the post or courier services to deliver their harmful and potentially lethal weapon of choice. As a result of this increased threat, the UK Government Security Services introduced new guidelines to the Commercial Sector in 2009 with the introduction of the PAS (Publically Available Specification) 97.

Since this time CornerStone have worked with a range of clients from many sectors helping them evaluate their existing mail security preparedness in addition to assessing the threats that each organization is exposed to.

Subsequent to some detailed market research during 2010, CornerStone discovered that over 90% of the commercial enterprises that took part, hadn't undertaken a detailed threat and risk assessment of their postroom operation nor did they have an adequate postroom procedure in place. Whilst some of the organisations had spent substantial budgets on protective security measures, there seemed to be a general lack of awareness of the latest advice and tools available to assist organisations to protect their assets, including their staff from what could be a highly damaging means of attack.

For further information or a consultation about your postroom operation please contact Jon Roadnight via email at jon@CornerStonegrg.co.uk

11 January 2011: How secure is your Organisation? How difficult would it be to breach your security measures?

As part of the range of services provided by CornerStone, last year saw a substantial increase in the number of Clients that required specialist Penetration Testing capabilities.

"I think we're seeing a healthy move towards the verification of our Clients security measures," commented CornerStone Director Narinder Dio. "Its long been our contention that to invest in security personnel, systems and other services required to protect a corporate enterprise shouldn't be the end of the process. That investment should be tested and security measures should be verified wherever possible".

CornerStone have developed a detailed "Red Team" approach to the testing of client systems and procedural responses. The use of adversarial analysis techniques enables specialist CornerStone personnel to take on the role of a potential aggressor with either a specific or range of targets. Only during this style of live, covert examination of the systems and procedures deployed can real vulnerabilities truly be identified.

In addition to perimeter penetration, Social Engineering assessments can also be carried out to identify not only the threats that employees potentially expose their employers too but also those that can impact their own personal life.

10 December 2011: Jon Roadnight makes his debut for Watford Football Club

2010 turned out to be a year to remember for one of CornerStone's Directors. Jon Roadnight had long dreamed of making his Premier League debut for his beloved Watford Football Club but at 45 thought that it was one ambition that had passed him by. However, when he learned of an auction that was being held to benefit both the Bobby More Cancer Fund and ex Watford, Derby and Aston Villa Footballer Nigel Callahan, whom had been suffering from Bowel Cancer, that offered a chance to play along side his footballing heroes, it was an opportunity he couldn't miss.

"To play in a team managed by Graham Taylor and to play along side the likes of ex England star Luther Blissett at the same time as raising some money for a very good cause was just too good an opportunity to turn down" said Jon after making the successful bid in the online auction.

The long time Watford supporter lined up in the Watford Team against a Derby side that included the likes of Dean Sturridge, Ian Taylor and Bobby Davidson. The match was played in front of over 3000 supporters at Derby's wonderful Pride Park Stadium and ended in an honourable 2 – 2 draw.
